Project Closed
The closed cycle management systems in manufacturing districts
Sponsored by ARPAT and Ecosistemi, and co-financed within the context of the European Union's LIFE Program, this is a biennial project that was launched in November 1999. Its goal is to reconcile economic growth and environmental protection, creating communities in which businesses, local agencies and citizens work together to manage the environment and available resources in a manner that is compatible with the economic criteria of closed cycles. The production chains involved in the project are: paper manufacturing in Lucca, plant-flower growing in Pistoia and textile manufacturing in Prato according to the methods outlined in the Project guide. The Project participants are small and medium size enterprises in Prato, Lucca and Pistoia and the industrial associations in each district. The results will be disseminated through seminars, conferences and the publication of reports and studies.
The expected results are:
- maximized exchange flows of wastes that can be used as raw materials or intermediate products, including the creation of management software programs;
- increased amounts of recyclable materials;
- reduced emissions and resource consumption;
- reduced environment management costs;
- new green market niches;
- the definition of new environmental parameters that can be useful for the creation of the district EMAM and hence reduced environment management costs, reduced environmental impact factors, promotion of the areas and their products, environmental land management.
