Within the context of the CLOSED Project the purpose of the Local Environmental Analysis is to describe the market potential of certain secondary materials that are obtained from wastes produced by the textile, paper and plant-flower growing industries in the Prato, Lucca and Pistoia districts. The report describes:

• some basic concepts of economic theory used to represent the costs and benefits of substituting secondary for primary materials in the production cycles; · - the method used for analyzing the market potential of products that can be recycled into secondary materials, describing both the software that was developed as well as the data source - the MUD forms - used in the analysis of the Prato, Lucca and Pistoia systems;
• the results of the local environmental analysis conducted with reference to the above mentioned production sectors and districts that set forth some of the potential uses of the wastes: specific wastes of the paper (pulper) and textile (flock) industries as well as raw materials (organic fertilizers in the plant-flower growing sector), materials from which energy can be recovered, and non-specific wastes such as plastics used to make flower pots and dishes (for use under the pots) in the plant-flower growing sector .
